Teacher Extension Activities

Here are a few suggestions as extension activities to make real-life connections your child’s learning after reading my book. Besides the basics of learning about the different Native American tribes these are activities I have done that were successful in my classroom. If you have an activity that went well, please share a picture with a description.

Have each child make a video or practice writing a recipe from their heritage that is their favorite as a family home project. You then can create a classroom multicultural cookbook.

This activity will have students practice

Math (measuring and counting)
Gross motor & Literacy (pre-writing/writing)
Social Studies (knowledge of self and recognizing how families are different)
Geography (location of recipe origin)

Multicultural fashion show. I have done this as a family night event after studying a clothing unit. Children are asked to dress in their family’s traditional clothing and parent will announce the pattern, fabric, location, and additional meaning such as fabric color or design as their child walks down the runway.

Geography (location of clothing origin)

Being different is okay. What can we do if we are bullied in school? Journal prompt “How could Ayasha have expressed herself to let her class know she felt bad or frustrated?
